Research Associate Program

About the Program

Over the past two decades, undergraduate research has continued to gain recognition as an essential pathway to academic and lifelong success. From promoting academic engagement to sense of belonging, undergraduate research provides students not only with the tools to succeed academically, but also with the connections, confidence, and skills necessary to thrive beyond their undergraduate years. More importantly, early exposure to research has been shown to increase student retention and motivation to pursue postgraduate education.

Funded by the University of California Office of the President, the SLC Research Associate Program -- Freshman and Sophomore Series seeks to demystify the research process and acclimate students to the rigor and practice of research at Cal. Over the course of two semesters, selected participants will acquire the tools to produce an original research project from start to finish. They will each receive a stipend in the amount of $2,500, along with individualized academic support to complete their research.
