Writing Program | What can I expect from my individual Writing tutor?

You can expect friendly, competent help in learning skills that will improve your performance on all your writing assignments. A tutor will work with you while you prepare a paper for a course, or in between assignments on areas of writing in which you want to improve. A tutor may go over a returned paper with you, offering constructive suggestions so that you can make your next paper better. Working with a tutor will help you to:

  • Analyze an assignment
  • Develop a strong thesis
  • Organize your ideas
  • Make good use of examples
  • Improve your command of sentence structure
  • Enjoy your writing assignments

A tutor will work with you at your level and at your pace to help you meet the demands of academic writing and produce effective, clear, concise prose. We'd like to help you write convincingly and in a style of which you will be proud. Click here to see "How to get the most out of tutoring."

Signing up

Sign up online during the first two weeks of classes.

When you have been assigned a tutor, you will receive an email confirming the assignment, and your tutor will contact you to arrange your first meeting. If we cannot assign you a tutor, you will receive an email letting you know your status and the resources currently available to you.

Because demand for individual writing tutoring is high in some courses, plan to sign up early.

Individual Writing Tutoring for Spring 2008 begins Monday, February 4, 2008.

Sign Up Online Beginning January 16, 2008.
