**Spring 2018 Announcement: The Spring 2018 Chem 1A study group schedule, including locations, has been posted. Study groups will begin Monday/Tuesday of Week 4.

About Study Groups

Study Groups meet 2 hours a day, twice each week. In groups, a study group facilitator guides the group by reviewing course material, answering questions, working examples to illustrate course concepts, providing worksheets for students to work on together, and helping students develop effective study strategies.

How to Join

  • Study group attendance is flexible and allows students to attend at any point during the semester. Of course, more is gained from consistent attendance! Just attend the session that works best with your schedule and add your name and SID to the sign-in sheet.

  • Study Groups begin the 4th week of instruction (i.e. week of 02/05/18) and continue until the end of instruction. Most room locations are located in César Chavez.

  • If a group is full, then students may be asked to attend the study group at least once a week to assure their space in the group.

Practice Exams

Practice Exams are designed to assist students in self-assessing their comprehension of the course material and problem solving skills. Solutions to Practice Exams are not printed or posted.

Practice Exams occur the weekend before each midterm or final in the course and are typically three hours long. At the start of the session, students will be given a practice exam written by the SLC and have approximately an hour to work on it as if it was a real exam. Peer facilitators will then review the Practice Exam with an emphasis on synthesis and understanding of core concepts, all the while providing tips on how to approach the course midterm or final.

How to Sign Up

Advanced registration is required for all practice exams. Acceptance is on a first come, first serve basis and is subject to seating availability. The exam location will be announced via email a day in advance.

The schedule of each Practice Exam will always be posted here and also typically through the professor's lecture.
