Qualifications, Responsibilities, and Requirements

Summer 2024

New Upper Division Summer Peer Tutor

Minimum Qualifications
✔ Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
✔ No more than two “Incomplete” grades
✔ Not on academic probation
✔ Completion of Math 104, Math 110,  Math 113, Math 128A or Math 185 with at least a B (or a P for courses taken in Spring 2020, Fall 2020, or Spring 2021).


Preferred Qualifications

✔ Taken Math 128A and Interested in Working with this Course!

✔ Passion for mathematics/statistics and the learning process

✔ Desire to grow as a budding professional

✔ Strong interest in collaborative learning models

✔ Strong interest in serving the math/stat learning community at Cal

✔ Willingness to engage in reflective practice

✔ Experience working with peers from diverse backgrounds and learning styles



Responsibilities
✔ Foster a welcoming space in the Drop-In Space
✔ Provide Drop-In tutoring service to students in Upper Division math courses

✔ Provide Topic Review on key concepts in courses supported
✔ Prepare for and attend weekly training
✔ Perform other tasks as assigned (for example: grading papers, data entry, provide logistical support for Upper Division Drop-In, etc.)


Requirements for selected candidates
✔ Ability to commit to at least 4 hours/week In-Person
✔ Attend weekly training for 1.5 hours/week on Mondays 5-6:30pm and completing 1.5 hours of training preparation per week

Fall 2024

New Math/Stat Lower Division Tutors

Minimum Qualifications for Fall 2024 Tutors:

Minimum Qualifications✔ Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher✔ No more than two “Incomplete” grades✔ Not on academic probation✔ Completion of first year calculus at the Math 1 or 10 level (or the equivalent: AP, IB, etc.) with at least a B (or a P for courses taken in Spring 2020, Fall 2020, or Spring 2021) by the start of employment. The first year calculus requirement can be met with the completion of Math 16 AND one of the Lower Division Stats (2/20/21) with at least a B (or a P for courses taken in Spring 2020, Fall 2020, or Spring 2021). Math 1B or the equivalent can be taken concurrently during the Fall 2023 semester.

Requirements for Fall 2024 Tutors:

✔ Ability to commit to 8 hours/week✔ Attend weekly training, to be scheduled based on tutor's availability✔ Attend weekly training (Wednesdays 5-6:30 or Thursdays 9:30-11)

New Upper Division Peer Tutor

Minimum Qualifications
✔ Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
✔ No more than two “Incomplete” grades
✔ Not on academic probation
✔ Completion of Math 104, Math 110,  Math 113, Math 128A or Math 185 with at least a B (or a P for courses taken in Spring 2020, Fall 2020, or Spring 2021).

*Note: Students may not be employed by the University more than 50% time during the fall or spring semester in any combination of titles. Students may work up to 100% time during the summer and during the winter break.
