Safety & Emergency Information

Chávez Building Emergencies

For plumbing leaks, broken windows or other similar matters, inform any SLC Staff member. If no SLC staff is available, contact a staff member in any other Chavez unit. If a life-threatening condition exists, secure your own safety first and then call 911.

Medical Emergencies: Health & Mental Health Services

For urgent needs, notify an SLC Staff Member. If no one is readily available, follow the instructions below, adapted from University Health Services website: uhs.berkeley.edu

Life Threatening Emergency

Go to the nearest hospital emergency department (from the UC Berkeley campus, Alta Bates Hospital, 2450 Ashby Ave just east of Telegraph Ave.) or call 911 from any phone if an ambulance is needed.

Urgent Medical Problem

Go directly to the Urgent Care department at Tang. Urgent Care parking and entrance is located on Durant Avenue between Fulton and Ellsworth Streets. For Fall and Spring Semesters, Urgent Care hours are M-F 8 am - 6 pm. After hours, call the 24-hour Help Line: 643-7197.

Urgent Mental Health Problem

Between the hours of 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, M - F, come to the Counseling and Psychological Services department at University Health Services at the Tang Center. After hours, call the 24-hour Help Line at (510) 643-7197.

Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence

Get immediate medical attention by going to the Urgent Care department at University Health Services at the Tang Center. If Urgent Care is not open, call the 24-hour Help Line at (510) 643-7197. The Gender Equity Resource Center, 209 Chavez, has additional resources.

Call 911 from any phone & contact an SLC staff member. Non-Emergency Police Services: ask an SLC program staff member to call 642-6760.
