LEP Global Book Club

We are thrilled to invite the Cal community to join our new LEP Global Book Club! Through this endeavor, we aim to explore literary traditions from all over the world in order to enrich our understanding of the human condition and broaden our own worldview.

We have chosen to honor Cal’s 150 years of brilliance by selecting Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts by Maxine Hong Kingston. A Cal alumna and professor emerita, Kingston interweaves her experiences growing up in America with her mother’s stories of China, providing insight into how cultural forces shape our identity. Kingston will be joining LEP for a conversation on December 7th to discuss her work as well as her experience learning, writing, and teaching at Cal. To RSVP, visit
