The Student Learning Center (SLC) will commemorate Juneteenth. This day acknowledges that over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect, the declaration of freedom ultimately reached remaining enslaved Black people on June 19, 1865, in Galveston Bay, Texas.
In observance of Juneteenth, the SLC will be closed on Monday, June 19. We invite you to honor and learn more about the national holiday by attending a Bay Area celebration. Below are links to information on local festivities.
To extend the enduring spirit of this day of freedom, we ask you to mindfully consider supporting initiatives and organizations that further Black humanity. May this be a time of thoughtful reflection for all of us.
