Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On May 17, 1967, Dr. King spoke on the steps of Sproul Plaza. Addressing more than 7,000 students, he stated: "You, in a real sense, have been the conscience of the academic community and our nation.”
18 years later, in 1985, the campus Student Union was renamed after King. Today, it serves as a reminder of his advocacy and leadership. To listen to his full speech, click here: https://inspire.berkeley.edu/o/king-calls-cal-students-the-conscience-of-our-nation/
The SLC is closed today in observance of the holiday. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow for the start of classes!
