About Study Groups
Study groups provide an inclusive, welcoming, and problem-based learning environment for students enrolled in core science courses. Guided by a peer facilitator, students will review course concepts, collaborate with peers to solve practice problems, and engage in a reflective practice to enhance their understanding of the subject matter. Students will also develop effective learning strategies to bolster their experiences as science learners.
Groups meet once a week for two hours throughout the semester, beginning the third week of instruction.
Students must sign up in advance to join a study group. The sign up link will be posted by the end of the first week of instruction.
To ensure an intimate learning environment where all members can actively engage, each study group accommodates up to 25 students. Acceptance is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Students who sign up for a study group that no longer has available seats will be added to the waitlist or that session. If seats become available in that study group during the semester, students on the waitlist will be notified and given the option to join.
Although participation in an SLC Science study group is voluntary, students must commit to attending regularly and are granted a maximum of two absences over the course of the semester.
Members who do not attend the first session of the semester or have more than two absences will be dropped from the study group. Students may not rejoin the same study group from which they were dropped; they must sign up to join or be added to the waitlist for a different study group.
Chemistry 1A Study Group Schedule
Spring 2019 study group offerings will be posted by the end of the first week of instruction.
