Welcome to the Student Learning Center Writing Program! We are glad you're interested in becoming a Writing Tutor!
The SLC Writing Program harnesses the power of peer pedagogy to support Cal undergraduate writers. We empower writers by prioritizing their diverse and culturally specific learning styles and experiences. Serving as attentive, respectful, and responsive readers, our peer tutors work one-to-one with fellow writers to explore and meet the intellectual and rhetorical rigor of writing at a research university. In the process of helping their peers refine their writing voice, our tutors also acquire the skills necessary to write and communicate more effectively.
✔ Meet with student writers one-to-one
✔ Must be able to attend weekly training
✔ Assist in workshop facilitation and design, as needed
✔ Provide program support to professional staff, as needed
✔ Fulfilled UCB writing requirement
✔ Interest in collaborative learning models
✔ Passion for writing and the writing process
✔ Ability to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of learning styles
✔ Ability to devote at least 6 hours/week
✔ No more than two “Incomplete” grades
✔ Not on academic probation
✔ Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better

✔ A recent sample of your academic writing, preferably a research paper
✔ A copy of your unofficial transcript
✔ Academic Recommendation Form (to be submitted by the recommender)
If your application is selected, you will be invited to an on-site interview.
Paid positions start at $15.11/hour.
