Qualifications, Requirements, & Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- MUST be available in-person
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- No more than two “Incomplete” grades
- Not on academic probation
- Must have fulfilled R&C requirement
- Satisfactory completion of application
Preferred Qualifications
- Passion for writing and the learning process
- Desire to grow as a writer and budding professional
- Strong interest in collaborative learning models
- Strong interest in serving the writing community at Cal
- Willingness to engage in reflective practice
- Experience working with peers from diverse backgrounds and learning styles
- Strong understanding of US college writing conventions
Program Requirements for Selected Candidates
- Attend weekly seminar, scheduled for Wednesdays 5-7PM, starting week 2 of instruction
- Commit to a minimum of 9 hours per week (may increase during midterm/paper seasons)
*Note: Students may not be employed by the University more than 50% time during the fall or spring semester in any combination of titles. Students may work up to 100% time during the summer and during the winter break.
Responsibilities
- Attend weekly seminar
- Prepare for weekly seminar
- Provide individual and/or group tutoring
- Foster an inclusive and welcoming learning environment
- Perform other tasks as assigned: Observations of the services, meeting with more experienced tutors, work performance conference(s), event planning/coordination, data entry, workshop facilitation and preparation, presentations, and support for professional staff, as needed

Process
- Submit a separate application for each position and each program
- Request a faculty/advisor recommendation for each position and each program (must be submitted by the first day of service)
- Candidates who submit a complete application and who satisfy the minimum qualifications and program requirements will be invited for an interview
- Candidates are notified of the results of their applications in writing within three weeks of their interviews

- Strong enthusiasm for engaging with peers
- Experience working with peers and staff from diverse backgrounds and learning styles
- Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility
- Experience using Google Suite, especially Google Documents & Sheets

Preferred Qualifications
- Has supported the SLC Writing Program as a tutor (Not required)
- Knowledge of the writing requirements and expectations at Cal
- Strong interest in serving the writing community at Cal
- Strong interest in representing the Student Learning Center
Responsibilities
- Foster a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment for writers and visitors in the in-person & virtual Vèvè Writing Lounge
- Greet and guide writers to sign-in and appropriate service/session
- Support with virtual or in-person Vèvè Writing Lounge management during service hours: Set-up/Breakdown, attend to service/tutor related questions for visitors, & take note of trends/patterns with writers & tutors
- Prepare for and attend weekly team meeting, starting week 2 of instruction
- Perform other administrative tasks as needed, including but not limited to: usage data maintenance and providing support to program professional staff, as needed
Requirements for Selected Candidates
- Must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours/week, between the hours of 10AM-8PM, Sunday-Friday
*Note: Students may not be employed by the University more than 50% time during the fall or spring semester in any combination of titles. Students may work up to 100% time during the summer and during the winter break.

Responsibilities
- Assist with data compilation and organization
- Assist in creating and distributing (some) Social Media materials
- Assist in event planning/coordination
- Assist with daily, direct service coordination and maintenance
- Assist in tutor recruitment and hiring, as needed
- Assist with workshop facilitation, as needed
- Attend team meetings and training seminars, as needed
- Coordinate and facilitate Weekly Orientations and class announcements
- Meet with student writers one-to-one and/or in groups, as needed
- Provide additional support to professional staff, as needed
Requirements for Selected Candidates
- Must be able to attend weekly training seminar
- New Tutor: Wednesdays 4-6PM
- Continuing Tutor*: Mondays 5-6PM
- Advanced Tutor**: Fridays, 12-1PM
- Must be able to commit 35-40 hours/week, primarily Monday-Friday 10AM-7PM

*Continuing Tutors (CTs) have one semester of experience in the Writing Program and attend CT seminar.
**Advanced Tutors (ATs) have two or more semesters of experience in the Writing Program and attend AT seminar.
