SLP Peer Academic Coach
Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- MUST be available in-person
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- No more than two “Incomplete” grades
- Not on academic probation
- Alignment with SLC Core Values
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written modalities
- Ability to engage in reflective practice
- Satisfactory completion of application
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to employ open-ended and closed-ended questions
- Ability to employ reflective listening skills
- Knowledge of or strong interest in the neuroscience of learning
- Knowledge of or strong interest in executive functions
- Passion for learning and the learning process
- Desire to grow as a learner and a budding professional
- Experience using SLC Strategic Learning Program services
- Experience working as a peer academic coach or tutor
- Experience or strong interest in working with peers from diverse backgrounds and learning styles
- Experience with or strong interest in collaborative learning models
- Experience or strong interest in serving the undergraduate community at Cal
- Experience or strong interest in serving neurodivergent student communities at Cal
Responsibilities
- Attend weekly seminar
- Prepare for weekly seminar
- Provide individual academic coaching
- Prepare for individual academic coaching appointments
- Foster an inclusive and welcoming learning environment
- Starting the second semester of service, facilitate group services, including Group Academic Coaching
- Perform other tasks as assigned: Observations of the services, practicum, meetings with more experienced coaches, supervisor meetings, work performance conference(s), event planning/coordination, data entry, presentations, and support for professional staff, as needed
- Attend an in-person weekly seminar, scheduled for Wednesdays 3-5PM starting week 2 of instruction
- Commit to 9 hours per week, contingent on service schedule.

- All positions start at $20.53/hour

- Experience using Google Suite, especially Google Documents & Sheets

- Experience with or strong interest in representing the Student Learning Center

Responsibilities
- Foster a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment for writers and visitors in the in-person & virtual SLC Strategic Learning Academic Coaching Hub.
- Greet and guide learners through the sign-in process and to the appropriate service/session
- Support with virtual or in-person Academic Coaching Hub management during service hours: Set-up/Breakdown, attend to service related questions & concerns for visitors, assist in keeping the space accessible and organized, & take note of trends/patterns with learners and coaches.
- Prepare for and attend weekly team meetings, starting week 2 of instruction.
- Perform other administrative tasks as needed, including but not limited to: assisting with usage data maintenance, social media maintenance, outreach roster/listserv maintenance, supervisor meetings, work performance conference(s), event planning/coordination, program drive maintenance, program resource maintenance, and providing support to program professional staff, as needed
- Must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours/week, between the hours of 10 am - 5pm, Monday - Friday
- Must be available and in-person, August 28 - December 13, 2025.
- Must attend an in-person weekly seminar, time TBD based on team's availability, starting week 2 of instruction
Compensation
